Youth Transition Services

Independent Living Department

Educational Advocacy, Independent Living Skills, and Pre-Employment Training

AIM's Youth Transition Programs are some of the most visible in our agency.  We offer social and life skills programs for young people throughout the school year and during the summer. These programs aim to teach children, teens, and young adults the independent living, self-advocacy, and work-readiness skills they need to succeed in life.

Teens Taking Flight (TTF)

Teens Taking Flight (TTF) is a weekly social, vocational, and recreational program during the school year dedicated to serving teenagers and young adults with disabilities. This program provides safe, educational, and entertaining growth opportunities for teenagers and young adults with cross disabilities.

• Expanded vocational opportunities

Pre-Employment Transition

Every youth and young adult MUST prepare for their future.  Abilities in Motion is dedicated to helping students with disabilities plan for the future they face after they leave the school system.  AIM offers Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) through the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR).  This program provides modules of programs in independent living skills, work readiness skills, and self-advocacy skills to youth who are customers of OVR or potentially-eligible customers ages 14 to 21 years old.

AIM recognizes that some seasonal activities and parties can be overwhelming for children with sensory sensitivity. AIM's Sensory-Friendly Events are calm gatherings with treats and activities that are selected and designed to avoid the common triggers of sensory sensitivity. These free parties, for both kids with sensory sensitivities and their siblings, have no loud noises, bright or flashing lights, little to no ambient music, and other amenities to allow all kids to be included and have fun! The parties vary from season to season and are advertised on AIM's website and on social media.
