Home Modification Program

Abilities in Motion has grant money to provide Home Modifications to Reading home owners with disabilities. The program is free to city residents who have disabilities and own the residence. The projects under the Home Modification program must fall below $5,000. Abilities in Motion works with Home Modification applicants to determine the needs and costs involved in individual projects. Once the project is approved through our funding partner, Neighborhood Housing Services, AIM will connect the home owner with an approved contractor and supervise the project.

Home modifications allow individuals with disabilities to live and work safely and more comfortably in their homes. The home modifications include, but are not limited to:

  • Changing door knobs to lever handles
  • Lowering counters
  • Installing video doorbell system
  • Installation of grab bars
  • Widening door frames or install swing away hinges
  • Installation of handrails
  • Lowering light switches
  • Changing of thresholds
  • Lower sight hole on doors
  • Cabinet removal
