What is Attendant Care? |
|
|
 |
 |
|
Attendant Care is an in-home personal assistance service that enables people with disabilities to live in
their homes and community, rather than in institutions. This program enables people with disabilities to receive services that will allow them to maximize their independence. People with disabilities age 18 or older may be eligible to receive these Attendant Care services. |

WHAT ATTENDANT CARE CAN DO FOR YOU Attendant Care allows a person with a disability:
- To live independently and in the least restrictive environment possible
- To remain independent in their homes, thereby preventing institutionalization
- To seek and /or maintain employment
- To maximize their capabilities and independence
- To provide reasonable care and assistance with their daily living activities

BASIC SERVICES
This
service provides assistance with personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, bathing, etc. Consumers may also receive assistance in meal preparation, eating and kitchen activities. Range of motion, health maintenance
activities and other relevant activities are also provided. |

ANCILLARY SERVICES* Although this
service cannot be utilized by consumers unless they also utilize the basic service they are nevertheless an important part of a consumer's life. These services may range from shopping, laundry, seasonal chores,
companion services, transportation, letter writing, reading mail, managing finances and assisting with the planning of activities |

WHAT ABOUT COST? Services are "free" to people with disabilities who qualify under Department of Public Welfare regulations. |

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Attendant Care is provided to people with disabilities throughout Berks County through the Department of Public Welfare via the Berks County Office of Aging, Abilities In Motion and United Disabilities
Services. |
