Providing the core services of every center

The mission of The Berks County Center for Independent Living is to help people determine their own individual lifestyle, based on personal choice, from a wide spectrum of acceptable alternatives. AIM supports the philosophy of Independent Living, its successes proven daily, for people with disabilities as they choose to assume the responsibilities of directing their own lives by becoming active, contributing participants in the mainstream of their communities.

Four Core Services of the Center

  • Peer Counseling - Supporting development of vital skills for independent living and promoting personal growth
  • Information and Referral - Providing people with disabilities and their supporters with an expansive database of valuable resources
  • Independent Living Skills - Supplying skills training to enhance self-reliance and self-esteem at home and in the community
  • Advocacy - Initiating grassroots civil-rights change, consumer self-advocacy and public disability awareness
